Please help i have checked my credit file this morning and been registered with cifas from natwest re misuse of my account,i spoke to somebody a few weeks ago and was advised to let the account default as couldnt make payments and then could make arrangements with credit management.i have rung natwest this morn who have said wait for default notice then make arrangements with credit management,i recieved a letter on 29th august re being registered with cifas but ignored it because i had already spoken to someone and the letter stated they hadnt heard from me,i thought i was just waiting to arrange with credit management,im sorry if im waffling just frightened and scared i want tis mess to be sorted,my health has already suffered and dont know how much more i can take xx

Are you sure its CIFAS?
Reason being, cifas is the fraud prevention service and should have nothing to do with defaulted accounts. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

I had a look at the CIFAS website
http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=564-28
and I don't think that just being registered on CIFAS means that you have been found guilty of fraud, just that anyone dealing with you may see that registration and be put on their guard. You wouldn't go to prison and get a criminal record unless Natwest decided to prosecute you and you were found guilty (and even then it probably wouldn't come to that)
The best thing to do is to ring one of the debt advice charities and get some advice on what to do next.0 -
No, you dont have a criminal record and no you wont go to prison!
It will make obtaining further credit almost impossible, and the police do have access to the cifas database but it is only used when a person is suspected of serious criminal offences.
Lots of people (especially people in debt) have at least one cifas flag on their credit record. It should be automatically removed after a year.0 -
Hi
No it is not a criminal record - you only get that through the police. You can only go to pison if you are arrested and charged with an offence.
