Cheap Car Hire

Options
Anyone know where best to hire a car from? Most of the big guns (Hertz, Enterprise etc.) seem to be fairly similar on price - expensive!!! Looking for small family suitable vehicle for few days while wife's is in for repairs. :rotfl:

I got a Focus for a week with 2 kids seats in August for £150 or so from Hertz, which I thought was a great deal.

Remember to go through Quidco first whoever you use for cashback;) (Hertz where 10%) and search for discount codes too;)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

a couple of years ago i had friends visit from england who hired a car from holmes, they got an ancient (as in 10 or 12 years old) vw polo, with a passenger door that didn't close properly... without exaggeration, it was a complete dose. my ex hired a van from there to move house one time, it was much the same, a very clapped out fiat ducato.

i think holmes, being a budget car dealer, "hire" cars as almost an extended test drive of something they have in stock... be warned! It is cheap but you get what you pay for, I didn't trust either of the vehicles to take me too far.

Try Lyndsey Ford, they always seem to have great rates advertised http://www.lindsayfordrental.co.uk.

Thanks guys. Don't think I'll take a chance on any dodgy cars as main use will be school run. Will shop around. Like everything else there are good and bad reports and I've heard both about Lindsey Ford. Tried their website for a quote though and you have to fill in some details and wait for a response - why can't these companies be upfront and publish their deals for all to see!!!!!

    hello,
    try enterprise at http://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/home.do
they were great for me - cheaper than the others and you can ring up the day before and organise a time for them to pick you up and them take you to pick up the car. They also drop you off when you leave the car back.
Offices are in bangor, mallusk, boucher road and portadown.
    Book online.
A focus for a week is working out at £136.
I tried them and would recommend them!
Let us know how you go.

Someone I know had an accident in a Holmes hire car when the brakes failed!! She was lucky not to be killed as were the pedestrians she narrowly missed. The car was found to not even be road legal (no validtax or MOT cert as I recall) when the police investigated. I have no idea how these cowboys are still in operation!
