...and not taxi driving because the only difference between taxi driving and van driving is the load loads and unloads itself with a taxi.
XDA - Check out Skills For Logistics, they were doing a Young Drivers Scheme. Or there's also apprenticeships. If there's any help available, jump on it. (I've already missed out on a Women Into Transport scheme from sitting on my behind.)

I have looked into this, and I was under the impression that the Young Drivers Scheme was coming to an end? Maybe Conor can confirm this as he's in the lgv industry?
Not many haulage firms in my town, so its not likely that I'll find an appreticeship anyway.
Cheers for the pointers though Pinzy!“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -

YDS hasn't really got off the ground. A few of the companies participating in it went to the wall or were bought out and the scheme ended.
Haulage is quite archaic and very short sighted. The companies seem to think there's going to be a never ending supply of HGV drivers and that training of them is "everyone elses responsibility". I don't know how old you are but in 2013, I expect there to be a massive change in the industry, as it is a tipping point, and "will put you through your test for free" will become commonplace in lorry driving job adverts. Basically in 2014, we all lose our "grandfather rights" and will have to do the Drivers CPC. The problem is that by 2014, most of the lorry drivers in the UK will be at or within a couple of years of retirement (average age of lorry drivers in 2003 was 53 and in 2007, only 3% of all lorry drivers were under 25) and be on annual licence medicals so they'll probably pack it in.0
