Hi all
There is a possible job going for a cook near to where I live. They are wanting somebody to cook for 12 Friars who have requested an old fashioned menu Mon to Fri. I would be able to design and shop for the menu each week. Not sure I am up for this as I am no good cooking fish at all! (this would be expected for Fridays)
Any ideas? I'd like to see if I could cook what you lot would expect to see on a menu in this situation.

I had a friend who lived in a similar place to this and I remember when visiting it was all lovely wholesome meals like meat pie, fish pie, shepherds pie (lots of pie!) etc. again, as fiscal says, if you did get the job always worth asking them, but i guess you need a few ideas first! puddings i guess things like sponge puds, crumbles, more pies, etcMum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

Grill the fish its easier. As for the rest, pies, stews etc is probably your best bet. Would you be cooking their lunch too? Big pot of hearty vegetable soup for lunch with some crusty bread.
How about this for a start?
i.e.
Monday: beef and onion pie, boiled potatoes and veg
Tuesday: chicken casserole and soda bread
Wednesday: sausages, roasted veg and mash
Thursday: cottage/shepherds pie and veg

they don't have to eat fish on Fridays, it used to be they did not eat meat on a Friday but that has changed a while ago. It's just habit now. as others have said, casseroles (and variations of) are always a winner as well as shepherds pies etc. Mince and dumplings and lots of healthy veggies too. Soups are a great idea and for desserts, apple pies, crumbles and suet puddings are good.
As for fish theres loads of easy ways to cook them. Dinner: Jugged hare (maybe replace with rabbit?), roast potatoes, brussel sprouts, blackberry and apple pie

Supper: Potato soup, stuffed cabbage, jacket potatoes, baked apples.
Monday: B: Cereal, bacon and egg, stewed fruit.Cabbage soup, brawn, green salad, blackberry pudding
T: Buttered toast, honey, swiss roll, biscuits
S: Hare soup, fish pie, peas and cheese and biscuits
Tuesday: B: Porridge, kippers, toast and marmaladeSteak and onions, fried potatoes, broccoli, apple fool
T: Tomato sandwiches, fruit cake, almond cheese cakes, biscuits

I'm actaully going to be following the Autumn meal plan from this book next month with the following variations:
1: Just have cereal for breakfast.
2: Scrap the obviously afternoon tea, we don't eat cakes and biscuits every day and it would cost too much.
3: Take items from the supper menu and have some of them for lunch. We therefore have no supper.
4: A couple of the items like hare and veal to be replaced by turkey and rabbit.0
