Why would we judge you hun? That's not what we're here to do. First of all, do you recognise the debt? If not stick it in an envelope and mark it return to sender. If you get anymore then send off the letter asking for a copy of the CCA.My Dad gave me a letter from a debt collection agency at the weekend that he had received addressed to me at his address. I haven't lived at his address for about 6 years except for a few months last year. The debt was for aprox £1500. Now my dad opened this letter and wrote For 'my name' on the front of the envelope. I think the debt is about 5 and a half years old. Now I was hoping for some advice. Should i either, put the letter in another envelope and send it back saying not know at this address so i can buy some more time. Or should i write to them with my new address and send the standard letter asking for proof of debt. Please don't judge me on this, i just need some helpful advice. Many thanks

Have a look on your credit report and find out the default date. If it's coming up to 6 years I'd be tempted to ignore it until it's statute barred. Thanks Angeluk, I do recognise it, that's why i know it's cheeky saying not know as this address and sending the letter back, although, it's not strictly lying as i don't actually live there and the fact that they have written to me there is just them clutching at straws because i used to live there.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I agree with immoral-angeluk
If it's approaching 6 years that could be why theyve contacted you out of the blue - last ditch attempt to get something. Put "not at this address" and send it back0 -
and dont give them ur new address 0 -
If you check your credit report, you will need to supply your address, which the DCA can then view.
What was the debt for - Creditcard, loan or overdraft?
You may want to check if there is a CCJ for the debt - look at the registry trust. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
