Chargeback. Can't do anything about them?

I sold some tickets for a concert on ebay about 9 months ago for £60. Sent tickets, everything fine and dandy.
I withdrew all finances in paypal and got on with my life.
Then a few months ago I received a debt recovery letter from paypal asking for £60. So I logged on to my account and saw that I was £60 in the red.
Turns out that the buyer did a "chargeback" and got the money for the tickets back. Paypal had emailed me a few months ago but I never log into my email account as I wasn't expecting anything. So they wanted £60 or debt collectors would come and take my belongings to the value of £60.
I emailed paypal and they have stated that they can't do anything about it and have now closed my account.
What can/should I do?

There is nothing you can do.
Paypal gives the seller 1 month to reply, its a mesure to help the customers when they file a claim, if the seller doesnt respond it is settled in the buyers favor,it ensures buyers dont have to wait indefenatly to get a response.
Always check your mail, in this case its clear it was your own fault.0 -
Just out of interest, why did the buyer claim a chargeback?0

What was the reason for the chargeback? Do you have proof of tracked delivery? Did they leave you feedback? Perhaps you could email/call the buyer to ask what's going on??0

The sale was 9 months ago and the OP has only just discovered that he lost a chargeback and now debt collectors are after him. I doubt very much that a buyer would welcome a call 9 months after the event, for whatever reason. Likewise supplying tracking or whatever now is too late, the chance for appeal has long gone.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think this has been a nasty lesson for you. I am sure you will always check your emails/paypal account if you do business with ebay again. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
Perhaps they tried to get into this concert with the tickets and weren't allowed. As far as I know, you can't sell on tickets like this.0

There was no reason given. I just wrongly assumed that a buyer can't take money out of my account after they have paid for an item without my consent. A lesson learned. I genuinely bought the tickets from ticketmaster but couldn't go. It was for 2 tickets and I've never sold tickets before. I sent them recorded delivery but as a few months went by I pressumed everything was ok.
I wish ebay was more friendly. You buy you pay. End of story. As a seller I see this as plain theft and would rather given the tickets away on here rather than someone steal them off ebay. I agree I should check my emails more regularly, but I rarely use ebay and i've got better/more important things to do than to check my ebay account and emails lol.
Never mind, lesson learned and someone would have a big smile on their face, I apparently owe paypal £60, they aint gonna get it!0 -

It's my fault that I didn't notice this person stole from my paypal account yes,
It's not my fault that this person decided to steal from me lol./0 -
I had something similar a couple of years ago. It was a PSP I sold (with some games/films). I did get the email about the dispute (he said he never got it) but I couldn't work out how to reply to the thing, I emailed paypal to ask and never got a reply. So I lost it in the end.
Paypal then took £115 out of my account (I had spent £15 of the money) then closed it and I have never been able to use paypal since. Still makes me angry! :rotfl:Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
I personally think that the system works well, think of it from a buyers perspective...something is wrong with your item, you contact the seller by email...no reply..so you make a claim, a month goes by and the seller still doesnt reply...i would be pretty angry at the seller for ignoring me.
Thats why paypal automatically gives a refund, they cant wait forever if the seller doesnt reply to emails.
Ive had some items not turn up/not as described and the seller has not responded so i got a refund. If the seller had replied i would have sent some of the items back to them, i was very annoyed having to wait a month for a refund.
You get a month to reply to any claim, its a shame to hear that you got into debt because of it, but checking email once every 3 to 4 weeks isnt too much to ask IMO.0
