In older properties I came across it quite frequently - but it just meant getting a wall built in between the loft spaces - a fairly quick and cheap job I thinkI am a Mortgage Adviser

The house is very old and mid terrace and has no firewall to either side, so It wont defineltly cause a mortgage retention, but it *might* It didnt when we bought, but it could this time?Pawpurrs x0

Depends on how thorough the surveyor is, to be honest.
If it's a low loan to value mortgage they might not bother even going up in the loft.
As mentioned previously though, not a huge job if it has to be doneI am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Are you selling or just remortgaging? If the latter then they may just do a 'drive-by', and not a full inspection. If selling then the purchasers might want you to get it done for them.I am a Mortgage Adviser

The thing is I got a mortgage and either side have a mortgage, I have sold at a very keen price and have said I wont reduce on survey, so although I know it will be mentioned, that in itself isnt an issue its *if* they put a retention on for it, that I am concerned about.
Whats the odds on that? I know what the survey will say timber/damp, firewall, odd bit of work here and there, nothing untoward on a 500 year old house.Pawpurrs x0 -
Bit off what you're asking, but are you saying that the loft space is totally opening into each of the adjacent houses? Or do you mean that the party wall just doesn't completely seal up to the roof?
We sold our 2 up 2 down in 93 and the buyer's survey pulled this up. I just bought a load of the cheapest bricks, got up there and finished it off.
I'd be more concerned from a security point to be honest.0
