Hydrogen Peroxide - Where to buy?

  • Aw... They really shouldn't be keeping hydrogen peroxide in the flammables cabinet. Oxidisers must be kept away from all flammable liquids.

I just bought a 200ml bottle of 6% Hydrogen Peroxide from the pharmacy counter at my local Boots store in Weston-super-Mare. The lady who served said she would check the "highly flammable" cabinet in the store room and returned a few minutes later with the bottle.

There was no quizzing or raising of eyebrows and best of all it only cost 99p which is a lot cheaper than the red wine stain removers sold in the local supermarkets.

There is an agreement between chemists and police about how much you can buy before they let the police know. But...it's like buying paracetamol - you can only buy 16 or whatever in one visit but as many as you want if you go to different chemists. As Isa Andrew Ibrahim did in Bristol in 2008.....

It was a Boots I asked in. I know it's used in hair bleaching kits... and they use 30% or so... way stronger than I want to buy.

could you dilute some of the hair stuff

A nightmare until I got paracetamol and ibuprofen on prescription (scrips free in Wales) - when you are suffering from pain and don't have a car is just when you want to be searching all over town to buy enough painkillers to keep you going over the weekend!
  • please don't confuse the stuff used on hair with food grade 3%...different stuff. hair stuff is cream for a start, it has more than just peroxide in it, you can't dilute it.
you can see the stuff used for cuts and gargling etc is clear, and obviously not the stuff used on hair.
just get it online. ebay...amazon, chemist online etc.

as the daughter of a chemist I would suggest finding one thats not a chain and asking politely in there if you can have a very small bottle explain what you need it for.Its often better to talk to the dispenser rather than the assistant as they will know what you can use it for Its also good for getting rid of mould, but do wear protective gloves when using it and make sure there is sufficient ventilation.
The stuff used in bleaching your hair is normally 30% or sometimes 40% and far too strong. or try some contact lense cleaner.
I can remeber selling bottles of 40% stuff in the early 1960s in my Dads shop and it was about 4/- (20p) a bottle and it was used for bleaching you hair, but it did turn it almost white and straw like .Not many conditioners on the market then and girls used to buy Vitapointe in a tube to try and get a shine on their hair
  • Use Colgate expert white toothpaste. It really works and was on two for one offer in boots when I last bought it. I saw a result within 5 days and o e month later my teeth are looking really white and stains have gone.
  • Thank you for ideas on where to buy Hydrogen Peroxide Solution, this country is so pathetic.
I got interrogated by the Chemist in Morrisons for asking where I can buy it.
I told them that I use it for cleaning my retainer as well as other medical uses. I then said it isn't any of your business anyway and asked why they needed to know.
They said oh it is banned by the Home Office because it can be used to make bombs apparently.
I said, right, so people can't buy something used medically but people can at this time of the year buy explosives over the counter, no questions asked in any supermarket or pop-up firework shop.
Yep that shut them up. Pathetic country we live in.
