Mine's capped and I recently recieved a bill from EDF for £114 and I thought that was bad. Not sure what you can do, but know you'll get plenty of good advice here.

    Hi P&C

If the meter reading used to transfer your supply is correct, the bill would be correct to. What may have happened is if you had estimated meter readings for the bills before the transfer, your bills may have been showing lower amounts than you actually were using causing this large final bill.

The good news is that it is no longer a priority bill as they longer provided supply your electricity so cannot disconnect you. They can be treated as a non priority debt, so contact them and offer a payment amount you can afford to clear the debt in a reasonable time scale.

I think what Alan is saying is that if they haven't read your meter for a while, your last few bills might have been too low, which is why there was a lot extra to pay on top of what you used in the summer.

If you don't want to get caught with a big bill again, the best thing to do is to check your meter every time a bill comes, and make sure you give them the right reading. And maybe check it at the end of every month or week, so you can get an idea of how much you are using. In another board, I came across this website http://www.i-measure.org.uk/ - if you put your readings in there, it will give you a very rough estimate of how much you are spending.
