This just shows how useless budget planners are. Mortgagfes can be tha same as kids. On paper you cant afford them and in reallity you do. Op peopler are judging you by themselves. If its what you want go for it

So you're saying the budget calculator is being pessimistic?
Im certainly not judging anyone, my comments were based on the original SOA which left £10 a month after paying all the bills etc whilst leaving out a fair few real world expenses, so what do you expect people to say?! Kids obviously cost money and I do agree with you that people often work out a way somehow or other even if "on paper" they might struggle to afford it, but there are state benefits etc that help offset that, so they're more tricky to budget accurately for. Unlike kids, the figures on the SOA when looking at a mortgage are mostly FIXED outgoings that have to be paid every month with a FIXED incoming wage, so if you take into account ALL your actual outgoings its fairly easy to work out if you can afford it based on your current monthly incomings. :)

Yeah, I get that you were trying to help. And I didn't mean anything I said as a personal attack. And I have since posted my revised SOA which leaves me 350 left after the payrise. I also made a lot of my outgoing more expensive as to do a "worst case scenario" in the original.
I brought them down a bit in the revised version.

Edit: That mortgage calculator xls is amazing. Nice work.

  • None taken, I was replying to Mr Helpful's post. :) If you've genuinely got £350 left at the end of the month then yep, you should be OK although I do still think it might be tighter than you think, but if it works for you then go for it.

Glad you like the spreadsheet
