My Mum's Money Troubles

  • I've not got the job :(. They phoned about 10 minutes ago, to say that I hadn't got the job and that there was someone with more experience than I had.

Well onto the next one - well hopefully. I've just applied for a job as a receptionist at the fire station and for one in a children's centre.

    Thanks though :)
  • hi, I was just wondering if someone could please give me some advice.

My mum was thinking about about getting a loan to pay off the catalogue debt that we have. So then she would only have one bill (the loan) to pay off.

We went on the moneysupermarket site to look at the loans and it brought up Halifax which wouldn't proceed from the site and the Nationwide, which declined my Mum. We also tried looking on the Halifax website as that is who my Mum banks with, but the quote on there was higher than it was on the moneysupermarket.

We don't know what else to try and so was wondering anyone had any ideas. Thank you in advance.

If you are getting declined do not apply for any more credit for at least a few months as otherwise your record looks worse and worse. If you do change utility company or mobile phone - please use a cashback site. Personally I use quidco...

We live in a council house
You must do everything possible to get the rent up to date and keep it up to date. Never let a council house slip through your hands.

Even if it means everybody working 3 jobs.
  • Hi, thank you for your replies.

My mum has contacted BT and we now have a pin on our phone that blocks calls to mobile phones and priemium rate numbers. We've also thrown the pin away so it can't be used to unblock the phone.

I know that my mum now gets housing benefit, and council tax benefit but is paying off the arrears each week. We've been in our council house for 12 years and so would hate to lose it. I've applied for more jobs this week, at Boots, Woolworths and a couple of other stores in town.

Thank you for the tip on now applying for credit for a few months. We did only just try this afternoon with Nationwide, but will leave it for a few months. Hopefully I can get a job and help my mum out more.

Thanks for everyone's help. If it's alright I will keep this as like a diary thing.

 CCCS would be better than a loan sweetie - have you spoken to them yet?

Or filled in the debt remedy online tool to see what it suggests?

    https://www.cccs.co.uk/debtremedy/(S(t3vcnljkidkdp445wvumsv2a))/start.aspx?hp=7

I think a diary is a great idea chick - I'll be keeping up with it.

    Love Jacks xxx :D

The other think to check out is whether you have a credit union in your area?

They may offer a small loan that would pay off the worst catalogue debt at a lower APR. You need to find out their rules as some accept people with expensive debt without savings and others insist on small savings beofre they will lona out.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Hi how would i find out about credit union, I've heard about them through the BBC's The One Show and mentioned them to my mum but don't know how to find out if there was on in our area.

I filled in a form on the CCCS site, but haven't spoken to them yet.

    thanks again.
