Job Interview In My Own House!!?

I received a call today from the owner of a company I applied to a while back. He wants to come to my house and "have a chat" about my application etc.
This seems very strange but I was just wondering if there is an etiquete for this sort of thing? Do I dress as I would for a normal interview or just be smart casual? Anything else I should be wary of?

It depends what sort of job it is, i.e if you want a post as a cleaner especially if it is agency work then an interview in your own home is the norm. They get an idea of you own standards and for this type of interview you normally dress smart but casual:D I have heard of at home interviews as well for nanny/ support worker roles as I suppose you can be judged on your house i.e what sort of person you are and how high are your standards. If on the other hand it is for an admin post then I would be suspicious.Fire up the Quattro!0

Have you checked out the genuine-ness of the job and company?
If you are in any doubt but want to go ahead with an interview, either arrange to meet in a hotel lounge (it only costs the price of a couple of coffees) in a convenient location or make sure that there is someone else in the house at the time.0 -
Son once had an interview and they asked if they could hold it in our house as the company were out of the area. When the boss arrived he conducted the interview in his Jag outside the house.0

I'd just love to be able to do this and turn up in pyjamas...but seriously: let them know the location of the nearest hotel lounge as LV says...or the nearest motorway services/suitable quiet pub and hold it there.0

please be careful, have someone in the house with you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for all the replies. The company is a genuine one etc. It is a locally based company, I think the guy operates from his house and lives down the road from me so might think it more convienient doing it this way.
I should add I am not concerned about safety or anything like, I was more concerned with dress code etc. Smart casual may be the way to go I guess!0 -
Normal "on your own teritory" clothes would be best. I have had interview in my house before and the worst thing was I had to bl@@dy tidy up!!!!!!!:rotfl:0

I work in finance and part of my interview was conducted at home although they did explain that it was to check that I actually lived there

not thought of tht....
well, best tidy up and good luck if they're coming to see you at home!
I'd personally have it away from the house if I could but that's just me!For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -

In that case, why not invite you there rather than invite himself to your home?0
