Cricut

Thanks for reading and hopefully your help too!
I have somehow missed the numerous opportunities of seeing a demo of a cricut in use. I have seen 3 on the web but was wondering whether it is possible to cut out your own free hand design using this machine? I'd also be grateful for anyone's contribution to know whether this really is worth its crust (acknowleding it depends how much you use it for.) Is it expensive to run - how often do you need to buy expendables, etc.?

I dont have a cricut so I can't answer about consumables but they know everything over at ukscrappers.co.uk

From what I understand, the cartridges are cheap from America and don't cost too much to get sent over.

I have a craft robo which I bought because I didn't want to have to keep forking out for cartridges. I can design whatever I want or download templates and it will cut it for me. I suppose you have to be a little bit technical to use the Robo to its full potential.

The cricuts advantages are that it does not need to be connected to a PC. It is standalone so you can take it anywhere and cut things out. Also, the cartridges you can buy are specially licensed so you can get Disney, Hello Kitty etc. There is now a UNSUPPORTED software you can download that allows you to use the cricut like a craft robo called SIR CUTSALOT. I think it is about 30 pounds.

I hope this answered a few questions for you

I think the cricut comes with the basic shapes and letters - but the cartridges can get expensive if you want new designs(but you can get them on ebay for cheaps). You can basically print any word out you choose so you need never buy letters again and it's great for doing circles and other shapes. I didn't buy mine it was handed down to me from my mam but I do love it.
  • I have the original cricut and although it is great i rarely use it so think before you spent that amount of money if it's going to be worth it.

You can see videos on it here - http://www.cricut.com/movies/
