AVC or ISA

Hi im 49 and in a defined benefit pension scheme at work started this 14 years ago and in the last year have started paying extra AVC contributions.The question is thinking of increasing my contributions or should i start paying into an ISA, i have no savings at present.At present the AVCs are in a low risk investment ie not tied to shares.Thanks for any replys.
