Perfectly fine. The chicken doesn't know thats the date put on it and 24 hours isn't going to hurt anyone as long as its properly cooked (this applies inside the date too!)

    really!

so Im not gonna get salmonella (as my mum keeps telling me)

oh thank god .. dont know if his lordship could take not getting chicken for his tea.
  • I would phone the shop and let them know and that way you can return it when you have time. I wouldn't use either chicken or fish past its date. I think you could be ok with red meat.
Other solution would be to cook tonight.

I'd cook it tonight and store the cooked parts in the fridge. If you can't do that, take it back to the shop tomorrow with your receipt.

  • I would do the smell test tomorrow - personally I doubt the chicken will self destruct within 24 hours of a date printed by a supermarket has expired. I personally feel a lot of these dates are too short due to health and safety. I'd much rather rely on how it smells/looks TBH.

Exactly....I love the thought that at 1 second past midnight the chicken will go off. Look at it and sniff it and it should be fine.

However, I would ring the place you got it from and have a moan about it.

My sister used to work at a supermarket. She told us that quite often things are perfectly fine after their use by dates. But you have to use your nose and see how things go.
