??? average monthly gas bill

Options
Hi, been around a bit but this is my first post. Trying to work out my budget to see if i can afford an apartment i am hankering after. Would dearly like to know the average price. Wsa thinking of a ball park figure of £100/month for a two bed, kept nice and toasty is this optomistic???

I live in a 2 storey terraced house and my gas bill through last winter was never more than £50 a month, but there have been a lot of increases since of course.

  • I paid about £130 a month last year in a 4 bed detached house so I'd say you're on the money here, depending of course on the flat itself - eg top floor is easier to heat than bottom floor. When I lived in a 2 bed apartment we were paying £15 a month :) although that was three years ago now. We were always well in credit though. But we were a middle flat (one above and one below) and since it was a block we also neighboured another flat on the same level so only one set of outside walls. I know the people in the bottom flat had trouble with feeling the cold though, we were always nice and toasty. So my advice is to look towards upper stories :)
  • thanks belfastgirl and bigcammy, there have been quite big increases and by what MSE Martin said on his show last week some more increases to come next year. Good to know that i am not underestimating

I moved into my new house in June this year (terraced house) and in the last 3 months I only used £21 of gas. I was pleasantly surprised! I fear what it will be like come winter though.
  • yeah i'd love to know this too...we had topped up £20.00 in our gas meter and that lasted 3 months!! but we were only really using it to heat up water adn to cook! really trying not to use the heating through out winter...but who knows how cold its gonna be etc...we bought a fabulous winter duvet and it is soo toasty and warm!!
i love having the gas card to top up on...cos i know where im at with bills...but we've only been in our house for 6 months....so we're still getting used to how much everything is...

  • We got gas and a new condenser boiler in about two years ago. We have a 3 bed semi-detached and in winter we have the heat on for a couple of hours in the morning and from 4 to 11 at night, and full-time at weekend. We also have a power shower. Our bill for the year up to May was £571. Much cheaper than oil!

Even with the rises in cost, £100 a month should be plenty for your apartment
  • £100 should be plenty, we are in a 2 bed apt and last winter we were around £40 a month, we only use gas for heating and cooker though.

Don't know how much it will be this winter!
