Mountain bike or BMX for 17 yo

I would kill for a BMX and I'm 37yo:cool:

It would have to be a GT for me. On a side note, I was
seriously looking at getting a BMX a couple of years ago
and the guy at the shop did say because of my height(5'11")
and weight(13st) that I would need larger/stronger hubs on
the wheels which would bump the price up. Might be worthwhile
asking what that may cost.

I think without a trip to cycle shop it's not possible for me to choose as it is lad who has to ride the bike. I think it's too big a decision to make for it to be a surprise cos if I get it wrong he won't use it.
The Winstanley site looks v good so I'll wait to hear what they say (hopefully on Monday) but I may well use my local shop, as they have always been good for servicing and repair, and my lad can pick it up fully assembled from there on Friday.
