Hi can you help me out guys please

Options
Hi there sorry new to the forum so mod's if this is in the wrong place im sorry and could you maybe move it to the right one for me thanks.

So anyway Guys ill get right to the point I sent a laptop of to be fixed that hade 1 mth left on the warranty. Got it back in around 10 working days and the problem was fixed. But it came back with a much bigger problem and that was. City L##k smashed it up so bad that it was shaped like a banana not good at all. So I phoned the shop up I got it from and thay phone the place that got it fixed. There the guys that all so sent it back out to me the first time. Anyway the place sent out City-L##k to pick it back up and to take it back to them. Now the place it was sent of to have fixed it put new parts on and stuff. But will not give me any warranty to cover the new parts. So I am not to happy about that as the laptop could go bang at any time and it could be down to it being smashed up. All so i did not ask for the laptop to be fixed thay just did it and sent it back to me. Now as thay wont give me any Warranty I dont wont the laptop but I would like them to refund me and for them to put a clame in with City-L##k for damaging the item. Am I able to do this As I did not ask for them to fix it I would be happy with City-link paying out to me or them. So i can buy a new one with warranty.

Hope you guys get what im trying to say as im not to good with pc's.
Thanks

PS im not trying to get a free warranty for the item I first sent to be fixed as this was my problem. Im trying to get a warranty on there problem and just one more side note the item was sigend for as uncheked in the first place

  • Hi no one able to help me with this ?
  • When things are repaired you normally get a warranty, though not normally for the whole year.

In this case, my response would have been that City Link smashed it, normally goods sent through a courier have a reasonable level of warranty on them so it would not be unreasonable to expect a replacement through this route.

A lot of it depends on who you sent it to to be repaired, was it the manufacturer or retailer?

One other thing, when you signed for it, did you state that it was severely damaged, I would assume that this damage was visible in the packaging so the driver might have said something?

One thing it might be worth doing is trawling through City Link's website and seeing what sort of protection they offer for goods in their care.

  • Hi ya thanks for getting back to me ill fill you in.
I was told by the retailer to send it to the manufacturer for the fault. So I sent it to them useing Royal mail next day P+P. It got there fine. After around 10 day's get a knock at the door from City-L##k guy he put the box along the wall so was unable to see the hole. Then I picked it up seen the hole. And told him I was unhappy and put not checked next to my name.

So I opened the box to find my laptop was the same shape as a banana but the laptop did turn on but with a lot of problems but the problem I sent it off with was fixed. So I phoned the retailer right away and told them about what had happend. And they asked me to send in photos which I did. They then sent them off to the manufacturer and the manufacturer told them they would send out City link to pick the laptop up right away. So with in 30 min City-L##k was knocking on the door and I gave them the laptop back.

I told the retailer I was not happy about having it fixed and I wanted a new laptop or 12 mths warranty. On this one anyway The retailer was like yes sounds fine to us. But the manufacturer is unwilling to Give me any warranty .

I was thinking today about this and whats to say the manufacturer have not put in a claim for the laptop. IE they get full refund for the laptop And I get a laptop with out any warranty at all. Im not happy about that So I belive the manufacturer should refund me the cost and if they have not already then they should claim from City-l##k. And to top it all off the laptop is now turning itself off intermitantly and theres a buzzing from around the HD.
  • First thing I would do is backup anything on your hard disc that you need.

Second thing I would do is contact City Link myself on
http://www.city-link.co.uk/contact_us/contact.php and find out if a claim has been put in. Tell them about the problem you've been having with the manufacturer not refunding you (a good outline will do) in spite of the fact of it being delivered severely damaged, and the fact that you put not checked next to your name when you signed for it. You will need the consignment number and who sent it out for this.

I would NOT accept the repaired one without a warranty, it means that they do not have any confidence in the repair job. Another thing I would do is get back to the manufacturer and ask why they will not give any warranty, always do this in writing so you have a record.

I would always cover both bases in a case like this, courier company and the person that sent it out. I would definitely want to know if they have claimed for this though, again I am making an assumption - whenever we have used couriers the delivery has included insurance. It may be that they somehow avoided paying for insurance in which case the people that sent it out are liable.

a lot of places now have the warranty running from the date of the original purchase date even when a faulty item has been fixed or exchanged .

    Let me get this right.
Laptop 11 months old breaks down. Sent for repair to manufacturer. Returned duly repaired but damaged in transit by City Link. Manufacturers repair laptop again. So at that point you are in the position that you should have been. The fact that the manufacturer may claim against City link is not your concern as the contract for delivery is between the manufacturer and City Link. The fact that you want a refund so that you can buy a new computer is neither here nor there as the manufacturer has done its duty in repairing the laptop. No company that I have come across will give an additional 12 months warranty on a repair as you state that you want. Most only carry on the warranty from the date of purchase as already mentioned by CHRISSYG.

With regard to the problems now arising these may or may not be connected with the delivery damage and that's what will have to be established. As a first step I would ask the manufacturer exactly what was repaired by them previously. At least then you'll have a better idea of the problem facing you. If the damage was as bad as you suggest it is not inconceivable that something was overlooked or wasn't evident when the repair was carried out. That's certainly the line that I would take when contacting them. If something has broken down which they repaired I would be very surprised if they did not offer to sort it out for you for free. You never know, you might end up with a new computer yet but remember, they're not obliged to give you one.
  • Thanks guys G42 the laptop is not in a repaired stat as it keep turning itself off intermitantly . It was not doing this when I sent it of to be fixed first time round.

update for you guys as of 2am sunday 21/9/08 the laptop is dead it just wont turn on at all now. I did not have this problem befor I sent it off. To befixed  so on the phone first thing monday
