Top retailers back Magazine Week

WHSmith, Tesco, Co-op and Borders have pledged high levels of support to Magazine Week 2008 (29 September to 5 October).

WHSmith has given free promotional space to publishers and will be running a range of special offers on magazines during Magazine Week. Its large high street and London travel stores will display prominent branding, while the London Waterloo and Victoria stores will be giving away goodie bags to customers buying more than one magazine. And The Victoria station branch will host the unveiling of Britain’s favourite ever magazine cover.
Tesco will be running a ‘buy two receive 100 points’ offer for its Clubcard customers on a range of 12 titles and will be giving 75 free Clubcard points to customers spending £3 or more on magazines.
Co-op initiatives include magazine value packs, tear-off discount vouchers, website offers, a ‘text and win’ holiday competition and in-store radio advertisements in celebration of the week.
Five thousand independent retailers have been provided with point of sale packs and leaflets to promote their Home News Delivery (HND) offering. The message ‘Indulge your passion…try an extra magazine today’ will be promoted to consumers via point of sale branding to encourage them to try magazines outside their normal repertoire.
As previously reported, Borders will offer a fully-funded ‘buy one get one half price’ offer on all magazines during Magazine Week.

Thanks a lot for the info OP :beer: I'll include a reference to your post in the mag offers thread as well.

Good to hear the Co-op will have discount vouchers, hopefully they will be similar to those which were available last year. Hopefully some (if not all) of these coupons will be non store specific.

I have found the magazine week leaflets today in our local 'Key Store'
They are A5 size, same as last year.
Each leaflet has £11 worth of mocs in, 6 x 50p and 8 x £1. They have 99 barcodes that I think will scan.

To the retailer- please accept this voucher as part payment for one copy of Auto Trader Yorkshire Edition valid from 28th eptember 2008. This voucher is worth £1 plus handling fee. The offer is valid until 20th December 2008 and must be returned to your local wholesale house.

went in to smiths yesterday, could see hardly any reductions (except £1 off one specialist mag, forget which). Lots of yellow magazine signs over racks but no sign saying magazine week.

Nothing in my local Co-Op this morning.
Tesco start their promotion today for 100 extra points when you buy 2 magazines, but they are expensive ones like Runners World, Kitchen Garden etc.

Hi Ann,

Unfortunately there are no voucher booklets that I am aware of this year, however I understand that some co-op stores are offering ‘tear-off’ vouchers at their magazine displays.

Also, Borders are offering a ‘buy one get one half price’ offer on all magazines this week – please see here for your nearest store http://www.borderslocal.co.uk/books/midlands.

Tesco are also running a promotion for Clubcard customers spending £3 or more on magazines.
