HELP please urgent advice need re Ex's debts

The advise you are getting here is definately correct. I'm from the other side of the fence...my boyfriend and his ex wife were massively in debt but because only my boyfriend signed the credit agreements; his ex wife is not liable without my boyfriend providing proof that she benefitted from the loans etc. You are on solid ground, go to the CAB and get them to help you draft a letter to get this blood sucking company off your back. Good luck.0

I have this terribly suspicious mind, you see.
I think if I was you I'd want to SEE the loan agreement that he signed. If it's in his name alone, all well and good, you have no liability whatever and can tell them to go and take a funny run. But I'd like to be sure that he hadn't added my name on to it with a forged signature!

This has been mentioned on the other thread on the same subject. I took it from the OP that she has been told that she is liable "because they were married" with no indication of her being a party to the loan document so hopefully she is safe there.0 -
I rang them at the time and they said that as they couldnt track him I was liable. So I paid it. Annoying thing was I was on benefit bringing up 2 children on £150 per week and he was working full time earning £300 per week.southernscouser wrote:Did you check that you were liable, seek any advice? Surely that can't be right!

If I was you I would seek some advice now! You might have paid the cheeky ba$tards without having to. If so you must be able to claim the money back!

Unfortunately you were misinformed and you need not have paid that debt if it was not your account.0 -
Thank you thank you to everyone who has given me advice here. It really has put my mind at rest, I was going round in circles and got such a migraine worrying about it all but I feel much better now. I definately did not sign anything I didn't even know he got it out till I started getting the letters, I will follow up all the advice given, I am so glad to have my extended mse family to turn to in times of trouble. :T

Hopefully you will be able to get away with it. Just wish I had that info at the time. I paid those debts off last year so I fear it might be too late.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Please seek some advice! Maybe from your local CAB office! You might be entitled to that money back. Gotta be worth the price of a phone call!
