Redeeming free product coupons

If I have a coupon for a free product where the RRP is say £2, what are the policies of each of the big supermarkets if that product is on special offer, say £1?
Will they just give me £1 off the bill? or the whole £2? Or does it depend on the actual coupon?
Just wondering where best to redeem such coupons...

They will just scan the coupon, so if the coupon has a value of £2 and the item is on offer at £1, you will still get £2 off you bill. just make sure you don't buy the item on its own, otherwise they will have to manually adjust the value of the coupon. You can hand such coupons in at any of the supermarkets if you are actually buying the item. :dance:0

Unfortunately, this didn't apply in Tesco today: I had a voucher for a free milkshake, regular price about £1.28, offer price £1.00- I only got £1.00 off the final total.0 -
It will take off whatever the coupon value states.
If no value is stated it may well be linked to the product.
ie if you buy the product it will take off whatever the value is.
Whereas a pre valued coupon will take off whatever it states on the coupon.0
