Hi All I would really really appreciate any help on this x
I am being made redundant on 28th November. I have worked for the Organisation for just under 7 years. Someone who has only worked for them for 18 months will get more than me because of her age.
I have disputed this with our Union saying that it is Ageism. They have sent me this webside address; http://www.worksmart.org.uk/rights/doesnt_giving_people_different_redundancy_payments_based
Although i have read on other websites that this is not allowed from the law passed in 2006. Does anyone know if they are right that they can do this? It seems that they can be a law to themselves. I feel really put out as I have been a loyal employee for sometime where as someone who has just joined them gets far more benefits. She is only 8 years older than me I am 30 so I don't feel that with her being 38 will find it any harder in getting a job than myself. I am a single parent so have commitments where as she doesn't have any children so could work any amount of hours.
An example of what they are paying is...
1. Someone who is 34 and 2 years service £4k
2. Someone who is 37 and 2 years service £8k
Above are just an example but basically its double if you are over 35 during your employment with them.
I would really appreciate any advice... I think I may have to contact a solicitor for this one and will hopefully find one on a no win no fee basis.
Thanks in Advance
