Just got home to find that A & L want to lend me £15k, just like that.

Don't need it, didn't ask for it and won't be taking it but shouldn't they be made to restrict these types of 'offers'.

I've never been a fan off these 'pre-approved credit' offers but in the current climate it is positively immoral.

No, they believe it's within your affordability and that you are a good risk.... They are only offering because they believe you can repay!!

'I do my job, do you do yours?'

  • these offers are not always true anyway. They have you on a database and sent these letters out to lots of people. your not the only one.

I get them all the time and I have allready got a big loan with them.

Maybe they have. Maybe you're one of the very few they consider credit worthy. I'd take it as a compliment and forget it.
  • Is it guaranteed 15k? Or is there a disclaimer somewhere on the letter stating that it is subject to status or underwriting criteria? I get letters from Barlclaycard inviting me to apply for loans because I have a good payment record with them. It doesn't mean they would lend it to me without further checks.

Most likey to be small print, subject to status.

Since having one cc i get loads of cc companies offering me theirs, they all get binned i don't want need another cc. They always have a disclaimer on too.

You could contact your bank and ask them to take you off the mailing list.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?
