Home based data entry work

Hollooo,
I am currently working full time shift work but I want an additional income. I have turned a corner and want to pay off my credit cards rather than living in the world of minimum payments.:p
Ideally, I want to work from home doing something that can be as flexible as possible to fit around my shift pattern.
Someone suggested to me to do home based data entry as I am a quick typer and good with the comp.
I have had a look on the net but the roles I keep finding seem to be a bit dodgy. They all ask for a one off up front fee prior to training which can't be right.
Does any one know of any legit company where I can seek out a job?
Is anyone doing something similar themselves?
Is there another thread where this is already being discussed? (I did search but came up with nilch)
Any thoughts or ideas would be very gratefully received!
THANKYOU:T

I'm afraid I have no useful information but I too have been looking for things like this to do at home in my spare time to make a bit of cash but I'm guessing its something that is quite sought after.
I would also therefore be interested to hear if anyone knows where to access this kind of work!0 -
Surely in this day and age if the data is in one place, they wouldn't need someone to rekey it elsewhere.
Memory sticks, OCR software, conversion macros etc would do the job.
Hence I take job adverts of that nature with a pinch of salt

nomoneytoday: you're right. However, there are probably a few smaller companies who might still have data on an old PC system that they can't easily convert to another format and carry across on a memory stick, or use OCR or conversion tools to deal with.
And OCR may not be very good with handwritten data on paper, or in a scanned image.
But, if a company placing an ad asks for an upfront fee, best to stay clear and do your due diligence on them.0 -
