See a penny, pick it up

Just seen this article on the BBC Magazine site:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7622792.stm

"Teacher Kath Kelly found £117 in dropped cash on the streets of Bristol, during a year in which she lived off £1 a day."

I can see myself bumping into people on my way to work now because I will be looking at the pavement lol.

  • There's already a challenge thread on this:

Save Money You Find On Street..1yr : http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...nd+challen ge

I was reading this thread the other night and now I always walk around with my "eyes down". I've told all the family to do it, since then I have found 5p. Hey, its a start!!

  • Ha! I always pick up money dropped on the streets, and so far have picked up 27p over the last year. Also, streets mean shops, and shops mean spending money - so I tend to avoid them to save money.

I always pick up money I see on the floor, even if it is 1p. I might start saving it now and see where I get with it.

I also pick up receipts outside of Tesco to see if people have collected the points ;) It still works out to free money :T

My Dad does this! He goes out around 6 on a Sat and sunday morning and picks up all the money drunk people have dropped! He often finds large amounts and uses it as his holiday spending money - he normally gets about £100 a year!

If the receipt has a barcode at the bottom it means the points haven't been taken up. I just go to customer service next time I am in, hand over my clubcard and say I forgot to do it last time. They just add the points on. I've never had any trouble but I think they are quite quick to clear up outside the door to make sure people don't do it too often. The best place is the Tesco petrol garage :D

I always pick up pennies if I see them, it's lucky.

  • I made a little velvet bag that I hung round my neck, and picked up everything I found in Basingstoke (ironically, the rundown council estates had money everywhere, kids would just chuck their change???).

I bought my first ever album with that bag of cash (which was very heavy!) for £15.99.

Last week, I spotted a £5 note on the pavement of Newport City Centre
