    I have used Microsoft Money for years and updated to Money 2005 and to be honest its no better than the older versions and you can find the older versions quite cheap on the likes of Amazon. I download my bank statements direct into Money and balance my accounts when the physical bank statement comes in.

    I also check my switch/cc receipts off all statements and discard all bar electrical type receipts that I might need over the next year or so.

    I keep bank statements for a year and each month discard the ones that are now a year old. Same with telephone and utilities bills.

  • Why not file away this year's statements into a lever arch file or whatever suits your purpose and then "archive" all the previous years' stuff in a cardboard box. It's only kept as a back-up in the rare occasions that something gets queried so it doesn't need to be immediately to hand.

    I used to have clear plastic envelopes, one colour for each item, but i found i didn't file everything away in order, so i had to wade through each envelope whenever i was after something. I now have a lever arch file.

  • I keep 12 months bills and statements, and all letetrs confirming accounts closed with nil balances. In concertina file. only takes about 15 minutes a week to file things and shred old papers...

    I use Quicken for all my accounts being kept up to date etc and update daily :o bit freakish really...LOL.

    I just went onto their website to see what Quicken were about and found this:

    Speaking of paperwork, does anyone know where I can get a decent (cheapish) shredder from? Any recommendations?

    I've just got a lever arch file with all the bills and statements in and subject dividers for each month and on the front of the divider I write my budget for the month for bills and food and any other thing I need to take into account like birthdays, xmas and holidays.
