Intrum Justitia Overpayment

Yesterday I received a letter from Intrum Justitia stating that, after a review, they identified that there was an overpayment on an account and that the 'client' wishes to refund the money directly to me. It states to either ring an 0870 number or complete a slip at the bottom of the letter and return to them.

I'm always dubious about things like this, but if there is money of mine then I'd like it back.

What do you think - ploy by IJ or honest letter? Just wondered if anyone else had ever had something similar.

Well have you actually made any payments to Interim Justica or anyone else? If not then there can't have been any overpayment can there?

I must say it sounds to me like they are fishing and I doubt very much that you will be due any money!

I agree it sounds like a fishing letter.

Defiantely do not phone them. You don't want them getting your phone number - and especially not on a 0870 number.

The slip they are asking you to fill in, what information is it asking for? Are they looking for your bank account number, your date of birth etc?

They already have your address as you have received this letter, so i would send a letter back requesting details of the overpayment, how much and what debt. I wouldn't send them any information - not even a signature, until you are very sure that this is on the level.

  • Yes I have made payments to them in the past. They have quoted the account number and client.

The slip on the bottom states:

Please accept this as authorisation to refund the overpayment amount to me on the above account.

There are then spaces for me to enclose my phone number, sign and date it and to print my name.
  • Hi - have you been paying them by direct debit? Earlier this year I finished paying debt to Intrum Justitia, this had been done by direct debit, and I had unknowingly overpaid them, I recieved a similar letter phoned them and some weeks later recieved a cheque from them!!! I thought it was pretty unlikely at the time but it does happen! I got a lot a pleasure from phoning them and telling them they owed ME money!!!!
