Does anyone know what the CSA use to determine your salary?
My OH is currently paying maintenance to his ex for his son but has recently changed jobs.
His previous salary was around 30,000 pa now he is on 23,000 but gets overtime.
We need the overtime to top up his income but it is not guaranteed each month and we do not know how much he will get in o/t until he has worked it - if it is available.
How do the CSA view o/t and how would they calculate maintenance based on it?

im pretty sure that thay dont include over time just his basic wage...
should say on the web site or give them quick call...

It doesn't say on the web I should just give them a ring but I need to leave that for my OH to do as they usually ask all sorts of questions before they will give you a straight answer!!!
We do not mind paying what is due and we would give his son the earth if we could it is just I don't want my husband working himself into the ground doing overtime if we don't get the benefit of it.0 -
well my oh pay's a set amount it doesnt change when he does over time...
yeah know what u mean bit difficult when thay don't give u straight answer..Ignore reality.There's nothing you can do about it.

They usually ask you to send a certain amount of payslips depending on whether he is weekly or monthly paid so you could send them payslips that don't show the overtime and they can make their calculation from that.
If they say they need to be consecutive tell them you've lost them and they will take the average from the ones that are closest together.0 -
They will ask for 3 or 4 motnhs payslips and take the totals from them - including overtime - and multiply this for the year. We had a problem in the past as my DH's payslip included 'expenses' - which were actually just a refund of things he had paid for from his own pocket, and the CSA tried to take this into account as part of his salary! It took a lot of patient explaining to get through to them.......
Your best bet, as he has taken a lower paid job, is to write to CSA explaining this, and send a copy of the letter offering the job if it quotes the salary. that is what we did my my DH got a new job after he was made redundant, and his new job was on a lower salary than his previous one. The CSA took his salary details from the letter and made the calcuation based on that. Originally they were going to make him wait 3 months for as assessment, so they could get 3 months worth of payslips!!!!

Ring CSA on day 1 of starting new job & request reassessment based on new employment salary details & follow this up with written confirmation of this phone call. Try & get the CSA worker's name if possible.
He can send the job offer letter in with his written confirmation, but this will not usually be used in the actual reassessment.
He will then be required to send in his first 2 monthly payslips from new employment & the assessment will be based on these details. All overtime worked & showing on these 2 payslips WILL be included.
The new assessment will be backdated to the date of his initial phone call. This means that he'll still pay the amount he's currently paying based on his present, higher paid employment until the assessment is completed. However, all overpayments will be returned. This is usually done by reducing his newer assessment payments until all monies due are returned.
Take copies of & send all documents by recorded delivery & if possible, take the names of all CSA staff that you deal with over the phone.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!):beer:
