Lentils - to soak or not?

Doom and Gloom - thanks for the info! I'd forgotten about sprouting lentils, I used to do this, but at the mo only seem to be using mung beans and chick peas, now I know how I'll be using up that pack of green lentils - my dd3 eats bean sprouts like sweets, she sits and munches whilst watching cbbc! Will give Sainsburys a go for Natco, might just have to look in the much bigger Sainsburys a few miles away.
Happy chick - thanks for the info, might have to start rinsing and soaking now - every little helps lol!
Moliere - will have a look in our co-op for the Natco spices, it's only a little one though, but they sound good. Can't believe I'm now going to have to start looking at stockpiling lentils due to price increases, as someone on the feed a family for £20 thread posted, Asda only seemed to have the organic lentils in stock! Great but not cheap!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

My slow cooker book (Slow Cooking Properly Explained) says that lentils don't need to be soaked before slow cooking, though having read this thread, I will probably try it..!DFW stats:
