Picking Items from Dump Yards

Just today I scooped 3 large planters out of a skip... they'll come in handy for growing some herbs or veggies next spring.

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
god, my whole house has been furnished from my local dump - I seperated and moved into my own place, and a friend works at the local recycling/dump and almost every night he comes round with stuff for me, be it tables, electrical things, books, CDs - at most local landfill sites, the guys who work there will be creaming off the decent stuff and either selling it or, or giving it to friends. Up here, what they do is anything that is decent is put to the site and left for someone else to collect, I guess because perthshire is a fairly affluent area then a lot of what goes into the slips isn't rubbish but just stuff that no one wants any more. The worst story my friend said was the fact that someone skipped an aga because it was the wrong colour for their new kitchen!
I have no idea as to the legalities of all this, I know that my friend's whole workplace is covered by CCTV but somehow I've managed to get bedding, furniture, and none of it is rubbish nor in worn condition. What my friend says is, and I'm horrified by this, that the local charity shops take a lot of what's handed into them to the landfill sites, books, CDs and that sort of thing, because they get given too many!0 -
Hi - yes - genuinely well done for getting stuff you wanted /needed - you are able to do this and are lucky because your friend works there.0

Certainly not nasty (why do you think this? - not nasty in any sense of the word unless you are reading something into this that no-one else gets)
Just out of interest, have you been on here before with a different username? or are feeling bitter about something else/a different post?
If so, don't ......, life is too short! Be happy.0 -

LOL. I don't see why it's nasty... no different to second hand shops.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Initially, the discussion was about dump yards (scrap yards)... I'm not sure how skips came into all this!
Personally, I wouldn't take from skips. What is the person throwing the item out changes their mind and goes out to take item out of skip only to discover it's gone walkies!
