    Hi divadee,

There are some opinions on the kenwood prospero that might help on this thread:

I'll add your thread to to that one later to keep the replies together.

The price is good, but at only 650W, I might save up for a more powerful model ;) That said, I use mine several times a week, and have had it over 15 years, so it's been a brilliant investment :T

well i actually got my machine yesterday (to excited couldnt wait) and it is great. I have made 2 x victoria sponge and a pavlova so far. BUT....

there is a big problem and i will have to take it back.

The mixing bowl was perfect when i bought it. I have used it 3 times so far and hand washed twice and dishwashed once.

This morning I went to use it, and i noticed some small rust spots in a perfect circle round the bowl about 1 inch from the bottom. I thought oh maybe i didnt wash it properly, so i put it in the dishwasher. It has come out and nope they are definately rust spots. I think it has been caused by the mixing blade touching the sides and causing this rust, as it is in a perfect circle, they could of not been done by me at all as i have only used plastic flexitools in it not anything metal.

Has this happened to anyone else? I was so shocked, you hear how good and perfect kenwood are and how they last years, but i have had it less than 24 hours and it is rusty:eek:

I bought one of these just before reading about the marks on the bowl referred to above, so I've had it about a week and have used it most days. I've done bread 3 times, a cake, scone dough, Twink's "hob-nobs", soup and smoothies in the liquidiser and grated cheese and chopped onion in the processor. The bowl is showing no signs of rust or any type of marks at all. The bowl is stainless steel so I wasn't really expecting rust to be a problem anyway.

The mixer head nods up and down when it is mixing dough but the accompanying leaflet tells you to expect this and in fact it's quite endearing

The unit is quite compact - for a Kenwood - which is one of the reasons I went for it. The whole thing is heavy and seems sturdy although I would have preferred the bowl to have a more rounded rim. It looks modern and clean - also important to me as it is kept out all the time and my kitchen is fairly new/modern looking. It won't do big batches of bread dough but there are only 2 of us so I don't cook more than one loaf at a time so that limitation is not relevant to me.

So far I've been very pleased with it. My main uses will be for bread, smoothies and soup and it has done fine on all of those. If you want to mix big batches of dough I would go for a bigger Chef/Major but otherwise I think it's a good Kenwood starter machine.
