Hiya,
Sister and BIL and nephew (18months) and Bump due on 2nd Jan moved out to oz this year so thinking ahead with xmas I have started to gather bits and bobs for them to put together a family hamper!
The thing is it cant be too heavy or it would cost me a fortune to post!! And nothing breakable. acouple of things you may be able to help with!!
1) What to put in it- have smellies from boots (points and glitches), clothes for new baby and also for nephew. Nothing for BIl so far or major for sister. What else would you put in it!??!
2) How do i wrap it all? Bearing in mind its going visa post and want it to still look fab when it is opened out of the outer packaging??
Any ideas welcome
xx

Hiya
I've (in the past) have sent many a box out to Oz full of presents. So I guess for starters (before you buy anymore) my advice would be check out the weight and the cost of the parcel. I found it cheaper on many occasions to send serveral smaller packets rather than one big box. To make sure it gets there in one piece use loads of bubble wrap and would have some sort of plastic inside the box (that way even if the box gets wet the contents dont!). Maybe do a box for the adults and one for kids???
As for ideas... well when I was living out there it was really silly stuff that I wanted that you couldn't buy out there. For example my favourite biscuits (custard creams). Maybe do a home away from home box full of favourite sweets etc. How about a memory album full of pictures (light to send, and thoughtful).
I also think (but you might want to check) that Oz dvd's player's take teh same region dvd's as the UK. If it does how about a dvd (or if you have any old family movies that could be transfer over).
Oh (sorry typing as I think), my friend was really touched when her family sent over a video message to her. Maybe (if you had access to a camera) you could make a video??
If I think of any other ideas, I'll post them, but hope this is sort of helpful

Another idea (sorry been thinking about this most of the evening!! lol) Is, if you know the area that they are moving to, go online and buy something in that area which can be delivered. I did this before when I needed to send some flowers. Interflora wanted to charge me a fortune, but I searched for a local florist and paid via credit card and they were delivered at a fraction of the price. Is you sister and brother in law into the cinema or theatre? How about buying them vouchers to be delivered to there address for a night out?:j Bought all my presents for this year (birthday and Christmas) now starting on next years!!:j0

thanks i did that for them when they moved over to oz!! So wanted to do something "from home" !! But thanks for the idea.
oh and on a side note it cost me less to send them flowere, teddy chocs etc in Sydney than it did to send them 10 minutes down the road for a friends baby!! lol
