I don't that there is anything in that post that I agree with. I don't think there's any point in discussing this further, Chucky.

Can I just warn people here against acting on any tax advice that Chucky may provide.

If you base you taxation decisions on what you read on a house price bun fight forum you deserve everything you get!!! And that includes playing 'hide the soap' in the showers at Pentonville with Mr Big.

I think the main exception is if you need to live where you work.

For example, a mate of mine is a fish farmer and so needs to live at the farm in case the fish start drowning or escape onto the road (I'm a bit hazy on the details of fish farming I admit).

This is very much more closely looked at in recent years in agriculture these days. It alspo used to be easier to get planning for accomodation with livestock and thats been clamped down upon too. The problem is of course, there IS a legitamate need: not just for livestock saftey but because agricultural theft is increasing.

i was even polite enough to send you a PM to let you know how I have done it.

Yes, so you have. Unfortunately, my opinion of your tax knowledge remains unchanged. You're probably a lovely chap, though, and very kind to animals.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I'm sorry chucky but your talking absolute garbage. There are no instances that residential property can be purchased tax efficiently. Even if you are in the trade of buying and selling houses or renting them the initial purchase price will never effect any tax liability as it will be either stock or an asset, both of which do not effect tax until the stock is sold. You would have to be making a quick loss for there to be any tax consequences.

Stop making yourself look even more foolish than you already do and just drop it.

In my experience, the very rich always find a way round paying taxes.

As Leona Helmsley said, "Only the little people pay taxes."

Couldn't you find a photo of her taken before she died?
  • She was convicted of 33 counts relating to tax fraud, though, and was in prison nearly 2 years, I think.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

    Adds character, don't you think?

Now all the 'rational' bulls have gone, if we weren't left with our few multiple-identity eccentrics, we'd all just agree.

Which might be lovely, but on the other hand, conversation might just grind to a halt.

In a lot of ways, I'd rather debate 'will prices rise or fall' than our other current topic of 'just how badly is the entire world economy messed up?' as house prices seem like light relief by comparison.

Plus one can have the satisfaction of winning the argument hands-down every time. ;)
