Contact Lenses

Forgive me for creating a new thread on this subject which pops up every now and again.

-I have been previously using Proclear Torics for two yearshowever I have finished my current run. I chosen Proclear by my previous optician due to my high prescription and comfort, both of which my optician was right about. So I will endeavor to stay with that brand.
-I am due for a contact lense check up (every two years)
-I am not with my current optition anymore, change of ownership plus extortianate price.
-I have had an eye test with D&A (for free) in the past month, got my PD checked at another optician for £5.
-I am 20yrs at Uni,don't think it counts for much though

I phoned D&A and inquired about having a contact lense check up. They stated that it would be £40 or free with a contact lense by post scheme of £29p/m (£174 for six).

I then did a few quick sums

£40 check-up + £54.47 (Proclear)(6 months from lenscatalogue) - 10% quidco = £100

Evidently a better deal.

Whilst I was waltzing around the internet I found that ASDA do their own toric monthlies for £44 (6m), is their anyway to find out who makes these? I would be prepared if it was a reputable company (J&J, B&L, Cuba) less so if it were ASDA.

Also does anyone know off the top of their head where it would be cheaper to get a contact lense check up, will check during my lunch break locally though, however I am tempted to stick with D&A as they have my records (they probably know that as well).

  • I always have my eye tests at Specsavers and my contact lens checks at my local Asda optician. They then ring Specsavers to check my prescription. The contact lens check at Asda is free and I buy my lenses in store (Focus dailies) but am not sure how their prices compare. Probably cheaper on the Asda website.
If you have an Asda optician near you it would be woth checking if they also do the checks free.
  • Well I am quoted £54 (6m PC) on the ASDA website, unfortunately there is no nearby ASDA, that said there is one in Eastleigh which is relatively close to me, a train ride. I'll check them out, thanks.
