Amazon Book ordered different price?

Options
Hi Guys,

I am unsure if it's the right forum but apologies if it isn't and would not mind it being moved to the right one. A week ago I've ordered a book from Amazon.co.uk and paid the book plus postage and packaging for £88.74.

What I was surprised about is that when I received the book last Friday it comes with 5 copies of commercial invoice which states that the value of the book I've ordered was $72.95 CAD, freight $27.98, CIF value $100.93 (don't know what CIF means?) The book is shipped from Ontario, Canada.

I then emailed the seller about this and he/she said that I may have got a wrong invoice and/or mistakenly included an invoice for a different book. I've replied that the commercial invoice clearly stated my name as the consignee. If that was the true value of the book and how come I'm paying more in sterling pounds if currency exchange at the moment is roughly (£1-$ 1.9-$2 CAD). Am I given here a wrong information? What else can I do? Has somebody got similar experience? I would appreciate your advise on how to resolve this matter. Many thanks.

If you were happy to pay £88.74 for the book then that is the cost of it.

If the Market Place seller was able to purchase it for $72.95 CAD and then sold it for a higher price on Amazon Market Place then that is just normal business practice to make a profit.

I can't understand what you are trying to achieve?

Do you expect to get a refund because this Market Place Seller was able to get the book at a lower price than what he/she sold it to you for?

You're not getting my point. I have purchased a brand new book and comes with it is the commercial invoice addressed to me with the figures in Canadian dollars which is nothing close in sterling pounds that I've paid. That was what my problem is..
  • Can't solve your cost problem, but CIF is Cost Insurance Freight, basically the cost of the item, insurance and frieght.

Having done it myself, it is very easy to put the wrong name and address on an invoice, I very much doubt if she sits there with a list of costs in front of her. Chances are there is some very confused person sitting there with an invoice for £88.74 having paid $100.93. Does it specifically state the name of the book on the invoice?

So you paid a total of £88.74 to get the book. But you have the invoice which gives CA $100.93, which is about £52.42.

It is a wonder you didn't have to pay import tax/duty since it is over £18.

So you want to know why you appear to have paid £36.32 more than the invoice stated?

Does the book have the cost of it pre-printed on the back or jacket?

Hmm .. well maybe it is the customs or ? Not sure, maybe some kind of exchange rate problem. But before, i ordered something from USA on Amazon marketplace, it cost £39.99 i think, to actually get it once it arrived i had to pay i think £11 or so to customs depending on the price stated on the parcel i guess. Let's hope it's being delivered by royal mail. parcel force will charge administration fees for paying your customs and you don't get a choice in it.
