Bargain!!!!
Got a bottle of this today to try it and you're right - very good.
They also have bottles of German white - Hock, for £1.96, medium sweet and not bad at all. :xmassign:0 -
75cl bottles of Wild Meadow (just like Baileys only about 3% weaker) for £3.99 in Tesco.
Also bottles of Cava (11%) for about £2.72 and bottles of Hardy wine (around 11.5%) for £2.99.
Saw these in the Abbeycentre one.0 -
I am sure i'll be shot down in flames for this but shouldn't we be looking to treat ourselves with increased quality booze for Xmas? I mean Tennents c'mon? Bud and miller are harmless enough if a bit bland. I suggest you all try a good german white beer. Very festive and great tastes.
Personal favourites at the moment is Erdinger Winter or dark beers (£1.50 a bottle in Gapwines) 12 for the price of 11 so only really £1.38 a bottle. These are 500mls so that brings down the relative cost too.
Also they do so bock beers, basically super strong German stuff 8.6%. Just the ticket, 3 of them slipped to an irritating family member on Christmas day and they will be spark out 30 mins later.

I am tight elsewhere to allow myself to be generous with my beer choices.....hmm maybe Spam Christmas dinner is a bit OTT though

I'm a vodka drinker and to be honest there are loads of cheaper alternatives to smirnoff vodka but I just don't like any of the rest. They just aren't the same.
In the end its down to your own taste buds, some people may like the cheaper drinks, others prefer the more expensive.
Christmas time though is when people spend loads on alcohol! I was working in tesco today and someone spend nearly £400 all on alcohol! I couldn't beleave it!0 -

Afraid I know nothing about beer and not much about spirits either, but DS no 2 likes to try different beers. He recently had a bottle which I think was brewed in Killyleagh. He said it tasted like they had filled the bottle with water from Strangford Lough! :snow_laug
When DIL and DS no 1 visited last year (they live in US) they bought lots of different "olde worlde" beers to try.
Only thing I like in that line is cider - OH thinks I'm a bit nutty because of the bad image.

Ok here is a recipe for Gluhwine. Very festive and warms you up a treat after a walk on a winters day.
bottle of cheap red(pinot noir is advised but i use the boxed stuff my FIL kindly gives me regardless of what it is)
Dozen cloves
Cinamon stick
Orange
Lemon
we dod of grated nutmeg if you can get it
splash of brandy or vodka to increase the firepower
Chop up the lemon and orange( large slices/chunks), snap the cinamon stick and buck into a pot with the wine, cloves and nutmeg. GENTLY heat(to much and you lose the alcohol) and add the brandy/vodka.
Strain the hard ingredients out and serve to your nearest and dearest saying "Froelich Weinachten" to each other
