exactly the same in our house, love the idea though ive always wanted to get a hamper at christmas time something with a bit of luxery in it but half of the hampers contain a lot of stuff my family would/do not like, this would solve that problem and getting a little something each week i wouldnt notice the extra cash being spent :money:0 -
we do this every year and it works well , i usually go over board but im making a concious(sp) effort to ditch the excess tat/food.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I do this too. But with all kinds of food not just the nice stuff for christmas. My tin cupboard is full of tomatoes and beans! A few months ago Asda has tinned salmon on offer so I bought a few with Christmas in mind and I'm always on the look out for special offers and BOGOFS on things I can squirrel away. Especially if it's in a tin or packet as they have long shelf life. I even buy UHT milk to have on standby so I don't have a mad dash to the overpriced local shop.
Part of it does come from I hate food shopping in December. I'm thinking of freezing veg this year towards the end of November so I don't even have that to worry about. And like ChrissyG I'm only buying what I need and not buying those little 'extras' that never get eaten !!0 -
Same here, i have a cupboard in the kitchen which is my xmas cupboard, and we have a long list on the computer, of everything we use, from loo roll to washing powder and everything inbetween, by christmas we have all our xmas/ new year food, and dont have to shop for a while, apart from the perishables, milk, fruit, bread etc.0
