Can anyone help me with this question - I am self-employed, have a baby and a foreign wife (she has no NI number). I am the named carer in regard to child benefit.

What is the best way to deal with the HRP? I currently pay Class 2 contributions, and Class 4 also when I make a profit.

HRP relates to people who are not working due to home responsibilities, this doesn't appear to apply to you.

Is there any benefit in getting my wife a NI number then transferring the child benefit carer status to her? Just thinking about the future - maybe she can begin to get something on her NI record that might help should she start work later on.

Does she not need an NI number to access the NHS? Or is she currently excluded under immigration rules?

Yes she will need a NI number soon and i will get one. Once i do, is it right that i can then transfer child benefit carer status to her, and she will begin to get the HRP?
