If it is a recent prescription then you should be able to get a new copy of it by going back to the optician that did it. If it is over a year or so old then you will need a new test.

  • Go to D&A website and download a free eye test voucher. Although glassdirect.co.uk can take your prescription if you send in your current pair of glasses, their prices start at £15 incl lenses (only 4 ugly pairs though), 14% quidco and free postage with 2 or more pairs bought

  • Your prescription is valid for 2 years. Any optitian will call your optician to get it over the phone as they want you to buy from them. It is one of the fun things in the job!

If not they have a machine (focimeter) with they can get a prescription off your existing glasses, (optical assistants are trained to do this) although they would be trusting you that it is in date. Depends what shop you were in really. A good opticians would not do this.

Hope that helps (I was an optical assistant)
  • No opticians should allow a prescription to be taken off of specs, the law/s regarding this changed several years ago now, if you want new specs its well worth spending a little on a test to make sure you are getting the most up to date prescription so the specs last as long as possible,

  • If you use a pc for work they are obligated to pay for your eyetest so maybe problem solved on the cash front!

Spectacles that are more than 2 years old, glassesdirect said that they would be willing to take mine in to measure the Puppillary distance but when I said they were 2 years old they ran for the hills.

  • the P.D. and the prescription are 2 different matters though, I would avoid anywhere that says its possible to use the existing specs to manufacture a new pair !!

  • Fair enough, I admit it looks like I was mixing arrogance and ignorance NOT GOOD!, well they have a 14-day money back no quibbles guarantee.
