Im asian and live in a predominantly asian area. There is a huge cash and carry around the corner from us. My family have always bought most of groceries especially veg and spices from them. You can get most things alot cheaper from there including herbs and spices. If you're adventurous you can get loads of weird veg some of which the names even i cant pronounce! Alot of people think that halaal butchers are more expensive when they're not compared to asda its alot better. I lived out for uni and was shocked at some of the prices supermarkets charge for spices and veg. Its cheaper still if your going to buy in bulk eg. get a big bag of rice/potatoes.

xara....If you could let me know the whereabouts of the asian shop

is it because of the droppings tthat you wont buy halal meat? if thats the case then im sure a major supermarket was fined for the same reason recently?

No, they are two separate issues.

I don't buy Halal meat because they slit the animal's throat without stunning it first, and it takes longer to die.

Oh in which case you have missed out big time. It's Ramadhan (month of fasting for Muslims) at the moment. A week or two before this happens they have a massive sale at my local Asian shops, and I mean SALE! Like a whole packet of in date poppadoms (the ones you fry) for 15p etc. Meat is on sale as well as almost everything else in store. Plus, it's better when you have a few different shops like this, cos they cut prices to get more sales. Bear it in mind for next year.

hi everyone hope this is the right place to post this.

the cost of meat in supermarkets nowadays is ridiculously expensive and not great quality, however a friend of mine suggested going to this asian wholesalers to get supplies for a curry night we where havin.

We went and not only did they have all the herbs and spices we needed at great prices, they had vegis 10kg of white potato's £2.49! we bought 3 chillis for £0.03p! the biggest surprise was the halal butchers, we got 3LB (approx 8) chicken breasts for £3.58! and 3lb minced lamb for about £4.30! both of which where absolutely delicious!!!! :D

I know for sure i wont be buying these items from anywhere else in the future.

Just wanted to let everyone know and hope this helps someone.
