Nationwide slow to return overpayment

Nationwide have proved very slow to return an overpayment since I paid off my mortgage.
It's not a huge amount but just as well.
I was told on Sept 10th that I would receive a cheque within the next "10 working days" which I thought was poor but I didn't argue, even though it wasn't my fault in the first place.
Told today that it will take up to another 5 working days to credit this amount direct to my bank account, not a cheque this time.
Sharp practice I think, not even incompetence.

  • dillie, hope you've got your money back by now.

Standard Life Bank did a reverse on this to me when I finished a mortgage with them - they insisted on adding five days interest to allow my settlement cheque to clear. I then discovered I had paid an extra month and asked for 30 days interest on that payment when they repaid - I can still hear the call centre guffaws to this day.

I agree - sharp practice indeed.
