Google have got googlemaps for mobile phones, which then use 'triangulation' to determine where you are, and has full postcode search in the whole of europe & uk.
You need a smart phone and 3g connection, but its free, and only pay for data transfer usage. many 3g packages include data allowance, I have been using this for a few months now, and the data costs are not high, and it is much cheaper than buying a sat nav !
directions are also now being added and I am sure speech will follow.
