Thanks for that whysohard, I was going to give up on trying elsewhere but will have a go as I won't be asking for any overdraft.
Suppose its for the best as HSBC are poor for student accounts and as long as I run a new account quite well then they could just upgrade me at Lloyds or elsewhere. thanks again!
It's entirely possible that Lloyds TSB will give you a full student account with overdraft. Why not go in there tomorow and apply and let us know how you get on?0 -
I was worried that applying for a student account with overdraft would be soundly rejected in another bank with my credit report holding so many missed payments in 2 years!
Could I ask them to do a 'quotation search' for a student account like it says on the credit rating guide, without having to make a full credit search when the reply will be a big no.
But I take your advice whysohard and will have a go at it first thing tomorrow!0 -
Even if they do reject you - so what? Just try elsewhere. If you have no searches on your report in the past 6 months I think you can get away wtih a couple of searches now.0

Also if you apply for an account I believe the credit scoring will "decide" which facilities you can have. So it may offer you full account facilities with overdraft and credit card, or it may offer you something very basic. Fingers crossed!0

To be honest - 4 1s over the space of 2 years is not that bad really. I would be suprised if another bank turned you down for a student account. As long as they are 1s and never got to a 2 and the 1 was never more than 1 month in a row this is really not that bad.
I remember when I was younger I had several 1s and 2s and I managed to get no end of credit. If I was you id go for a full student account with another bank and dont worry.
If they decline you ask what there appeals process if. I would put money on that you would get the account your after.0 -
Yes on voters roll, I've had several mobile phone contracts and they all are up to date with no missed payments over 2 years.
Also no searches within last 6 months I believe.
Having searches or no searches doesn't mean a thing unless you are turned down for credit. I've had a six month period of having searches every month and it didn't affect my credit rating.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
I would try NATWEST as they used to give a free 5 year railcard (possibly still do)which is the only freebie worth having. You could also try appealing against the decision, When you do this your application is looked at by a real person instead of a computer score. It worked for my friend in the past so worth a try.
Good Luck0 -
Went into lloyds tsb today and they gave me a full student account with small overdraft and credit card no questions asked!
Thought if I get the credit card and regularly pay it off without getting close to missing payments on that it would help my rating further and its 0% which is fantastic.
Thanks everyone for the advice! I was just going to go in and ask for a current account so its good I asked for the student account to start with.0 -

Nice one!!!!!!:D
What were the limits like on the credit card and overdraft?0 -
Its a 200 overdraft and a 750 limit on the credit card which doesn't bother me as I will only use it now and then. Saying that does anyone have any advice what I should do with the credit card? Should I use it or leave it alone if I don't want to buy off it? I got it to build up a credit rating so basically make a small purchase each month then pay it off as soon as statement arrives?0
