Sprouts on Sticks

A farm shop has just opened up near to me and I visited at weekend. The produce was all lovely. I love sprouts and they had some in bags and some on sticks. The bags were 60p per bag and the sticks were 70p per stick. You looked to get slightly more in the bag. What is the difference in them, as the sprouts in the bag would have come off the stick anyway?

They stay much fresher on the stick paricularly if you leave them somewhere cool.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Silly! You stick a bit of cheese and pinapple on the same stick and serve them with the pre-dinner drinks.0 -

I think you need to look at the weight of each ... or, even the weight per kilo.
With the stick, I'd imagine you're paying for the stick itself, which is a waste. However, your stick might be 70p per kilo, compared with 60p per HALF kilo (equivalent to £1.20 per kilo) for the bagged sprouts.
If they are close to the same price per kilo, then the ones on sticks might be fresher - so you might pay more.
Why not ask them and see what they say?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

The sprouts on sticks will stay fresher for longer if you keep it somewhere cool, I usually stick mine in a vase. If it still has the leaves on at the top of the stick, you can use them as you would cabbage.I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0 -
As Brussel sprouts are about £1.19/kg your stalk is better value than loose brussels. With a good stalk you should get about a kilo so for 69p you have probably saved 50p apart from the fact that staying fresher they will taste better and have a higher Brussels sprouts: nutritionalprofileMy weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

We had sprouts on a stick once and they were loads nicer then the normal ones, but they were from a farm and we get the normal ones from the supermarket. You can also eat the leafy bit at the top (my mum saidit was called "tops") and it's kinda like cabbageMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

When I was little, we lived in a big house with a cellar, and had a huge vegetable garden. Until we got a freezer sometime in the late 50s, all the veg was stored in the cellar. Sprouts were always left on the stalks, stuck in damp sand. But they didn't go into the cellar until the first frost - the longer they stay in the ground, the better they taste.
Even when we got the freezer, the sprouts stayed in the cellar on their stalks.
I know childhood memories are sometimes fantasies, and nothing is ever as good as what mum cooked, but these sprouts were simply delicious!
If I can get sprouts on the stalks, I'll jump at the opportunity, because they are fresher and juicier. Sadly, it's rare to find them - so I envy you, Alison_B! Must do the rounds in my local farmshops tomorrow.0 -
