first thing i would do is go to the citizens advice, doing what the mortgage company want may not be in your best interest0

1. Go with your budget made out, neatly, and take a few copies.
2. Make a plan of to how you can pay a reasonable amount. Be prepared to tell them where and how you can cut back and what you have already done. Also, any plans to make extra money e.g. second job - take adverts looking for evening or whatever jobs fit in with your life. Take copies of any letters applying for jobs or a list of the jobs you have applied for.
3. Have written down what you have done to deal with any debts you have. Also future plans to deal with them. Go knowing the charities that can help you and plans of who you are going to ask - or better still have asked - take copies of all letters sent/received.
I remember hearing someone being told that Credit Card companies can't take your house and they should be repaid AFTER you have paid your mortgage.
It is scary, but whoever you see will not be there to chuck you out, they will be looking for ways to keep you there. If you go with the above info you will give them the belief that you are working at your problem and it will make them feel more confident about any help they can give you.
I would also say - tell the truth when they ask you questions. If there is a hard question, admit past mistakes and show how you have had your LBM and are determined to do all you can to get your financial life back on track.
Good luck.
ps take plenty of tissues for if you have a tearful moment!0 -
I have recently been to court for arrears on my mortgage. Go and see your CAB I didnt but there was a one at the court that day and he was great. I origannly had agreed with the mortgage lender to pay off five hundred pounds a month in arrears and he said that was far to much and got it reduced to three hundred pounds a month. Do a sheet with income and expendature to take with you. The judge was really nice and fair, the soliciter for the bank said that as I already had paid one payment of five hundred pounds I could afford it the judge said that was a ridiculous amount. Remember you are not the only one in this mess, I live in a rural area and the court is in a small market town on the day I went to court there were 18 cases for mortgage arrears. Good luck and you will feel much better once you have been and you know what your plans are.1400 to cedit card now 1367:D0

Hi
bump, bump, bump just means that no-one has responded to your thread and someone is "bumping" it again to the top for you so that people see it in order for them to respond rather than it slipping to another page that may not get noticed.
lbm - light bulb moment - basically when you first realised the seriousness of your debt problems.
Charities - non-profit, free, financial advice and counselling - Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), National Debtline and the CAB. They all offer free, impartial debt advice.
Hope this helps.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
thanks for all your help.

Deep in debt has answered. You should contact all the charities that give help, they are all on Martin's site. Make an appointment with the Citizen's advice Bureau - just having an appointment will show them you are trying.
You have to know why you got into trouble. Do you have any other debts, credit cards and loans?
If you post a statement of affairs SOA, you will get mountains of advice as to how you can cut back and re-adjust - all amunition for the hearing.0 -
