Making county court claim for kitchen fitting...

I've recently posted in the "In your home" forum about the state of my kitchen fitting.
To cut a long story short, kitchen has been fitted to a v bad standard but I was stupid enough to pay him in full. I've now written to him stating that unless it is all put right (enclosed list of 33 points!) I will make a county court claim against him.
He has returned a letter this morning, rubbishing all my points blaming state of walls, floors etc and even stating that the kitchen was poor quality:mad: , !sows ear - silk purse" etc. He also seems to think that everything was fine when he left, as if I took all the hinges off the doors to make them wonky and reset all the tiles and grout to make them look that bad
He claims that I got value for money and that I expressed that I was happy with it. Long and short of it is he's refusing to come back and do anything.
I don't really want money back, I never expected to get a kitchen fitted for free but I want a safe, useable kitchen that doesn't look like it got pulled from a rubbish tip 15 years ago.
What's my next step from here?? Do I pay another kitchen fitter (which I really can't afford to but will if necessary) to come out to give me a list of faults and a quote for putting it right, then make court claim or do I just go straight in to making claim for full amount back??
This whole thing is making me ill and I just want a resolution to it as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance

My parents are going through a similar thing at the moment. A few points:
Does your home insurance come with any sort of legal advice service? If so contact them.
Is any part of the work unsafe? If so it might be wise to speak to your local council.
It would be better to get a few people round to give a quote to rectify the work to an acceptable standard and maybe also to agree with you that it is substandard work. Then you can pursue that amount through the court.
Do you have photos of the work done and copies of all paperwork between you and the kitchen fitter? Make sure you keep them all.
Good luck.0
