Hi
I am a charity shop manager:
They will be looking for someone who can:
use their iniative
Easy to get on with
Willing
Able to deal with volunteers - treat them with respect
They'll want to ask you about how you would help targets are reached - maximising profits
Make sure you show you're flexible as chances are they ask you to do extra if managers sick or on holiday
Which charity is it??
Aything else feel free to pm me or post here.

My OH did this about 6 years ago. He thought it would be his ideal job. It wasn't.
Some amusing stories from them days:- He was allowed to take in his cd's and play them while he was there. One of the volunteers sold them to a customer.
- A man regularly came in a did a wee in the corner of the shop.
- Someone donated what they said were their kidney stones, 'in case anyone wanted to buy them'.
- He kept finding children in the bins.
- His manager didn't believe he had a girlfriend so he had to take me in once on his day off to prove I was real.

Yes Ill second the above, My wife used to run a Shelter Shop.
She had, People walking off with items, A man went into a changing room and she happened to see that he had not pulled the curtain on - He was wearing a 'Skirt' on purpose!!
Some of the volunteers were strange too, Like the young lad who would stand outside the shop from 6.30 am - 9.00 waiting for you!!
If you were late he would ring you 'constantly' at home & on your mobile, Which we 'fooloishly' gave the number out.
He was a 'Big' help, But also a 'Hindrance' at times, With his family calling in.
He had 'lerning problems'
There are alot of 'Politics' of working in a Charity shop, My wife once stood in at another shop, And had no volunteers apart from (me) who used to help out most days.
We rang the other shop for help, And the Manager there said was no -one available to come down & help??
It was well known for them not to offer any help, As they were in their own 'Gang' and sticked together.
It was 'hard' work some days, Serving customers, Taking in donations, and the bags - Yes bag sorting hundreds of them.
They don't pay a good wage in these shops, And they have a high turnover of staff, Which is a shame as there are some Excellent managers & volunteers.
But it seems o attrct those who do not have 'core people skills' or people who do not offer any 'stability' and leave 2 weeks later.
I really enjoyed working there, But we were unfortunate as the shop closed down due to it's takings & rents.
I hope you enjoy the work, It certainly is an 'eye opener of life as it is.
And sometimes if your lucky you can 'Drop' on items like I did, Some off the Valuables we used to find were amazing.
Some used to go in the 'Bin' and I profited from them.
Good Luck.Thomson 757 Man0 -

What with customers and staff stealing from the charity, you wonder why the takings were down0 -
My sister is an assistant manager in a charity shop. She started there at 16 on a jobcentre voluntary work placement. Now she is 28 and progressed to assistant manager. She says she never wants to take over as manager though but I have seen her run the shop she can do it with her hands tied behind her back.
She also goes all over the place helping other shops when their managers are off or when they are short on volunteers and it is reciprocal as she has loads of contacts for when she is short or when the manager is off and she has to have a day off too.
Maybe it depends on the charity.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Although i work for a charity managing shops i wouldn't reccommend it to people (not wanting to put you off). Most charities don't treat the stff brilliantly and you get alot of responsibility pu on you with not much support (talking about where i work).
