in Cutting tax
hi, i have recently started working as a care-worker, i have to drive round to my clients houses on a daily basis, i am paid hourly, and i am not self employed, i am doing roughly betwen 10-20 hours per week, the company pays 50p extra per house you visit for petrol costs, well as you all know this isnt going to cover much petrol. I have been out tonight and done 14 miles visiting around 6 clients, so thats only £3.00.
I asked a friend who is an accountant if i could claim back petrol costs through the tax office and he said only if i was self employed, does any one know if this is right please, as im confused slightly. thanks in advance

You can claim tax relief for travel between clients houses and also between your normal place of work and the first/last clinets house. The relief is 40p pm for the first 10,000 miles and 25p pm thereafter, less what you have been given by your employer if that has not been taxed.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Just in case HM REVENUE comes for visit though, keep a record of ALL your visit, don't just calculate it by "guess".0
