Freeview Recorder

I am looking to replace my digi box as its starting to play up (locking up and getting a little warm) and works needs make me miss the excellent programs on the run up to xmas.

I am looking for a freeview box that is able to record onto a HD in the box. Twin tuner whould be ideal as you get one of those moments when you have 2 programs but have to choose one ;)

Teletext is a must! (hearing loss)

The basic one from argos is £129.99 or £179.99 for the next model up

Any recommandations?

Thanks

Hi I fully recommend the Humax either the 8000T around £140 (80gb hard disc) or the latest twin tuner 9200 around £210 with 160gb hard disc, it also has usb input so you can take recording on to pc and play mp3 and photos for exporting frm you pc.

This info is really handy. I've been trying to buy an Inverto PVR since April (!) and have had the most tedious saga in the process - Unbeatable.com being unable to get stock then going out of business, me finding it elsewhere "in stock" but at a higher price, then turned out it wasn't in stock at all, and the retailer sent me somebody else's order...

    ...so I'm still looking!

2 questions. None of the retailers found by Kelkoo had any stock of the Humax 9200 model - has it been released yet? Also, the best prices according to Kelkoo are 24-7, followed by Electricshop.com. Does anybody have any experience of the reliability of these retailers, because quite honestly I'm tempted to pay £20 over the odds in Currys just to avoid a continuation of all the hassle I've already had!!! I am determined to be on Freeview by Christmas.

  • Hi, I have found that QED sell both the Humax boxes you mention. The 8000 is £125 and the 9200 is £229.99, both are 'ordered on request' I think there is also a small delivery charge . Also Hifonicsrus have it for £229.99 + £14.50 delivery. So if Poppycat knows where it is for £210, he/she might like to share that info with you. Good luck. Hope you get want you want from Santa Claus. - Sally

    I bought mine from Turbosat
They seem to offer good support going by other customers' reports.

The following retailers sell the 9200T (can't comment on their service though).
    ElectricShop
    247Electrical
    Superfi
    HomeCinemaTv

Humax have this page which lists other suppliers.

247Electrical have it for £207 including delivery. Service reviews on Pricerunner are mixed (some excellent, some awful). I have just placed my order with 247 so we'll see what happens :D

Almost everybody else including the big high street retailers (Currys, Comet, John Lewis) advertise it for £229.99, and there are a couple of £219.99 options with online retailers.

  • Same here my budget is around £150 - so my thoughts are with the Digifusion 200 at the moment.

    I got mine from here

    http://ws4.hughesdirect.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=HUM-PVR9200T

managed to get it down to £204 with a discount link

Hughes will price match too if you ask, as I did with a tv recently. Just tell them where and they check up, they see good company too.

The 9200 is so I hear in short supply as its fairly new less than a month old and is very popular, there already a update for the box which was on Humax web site yesterday but you need a null modem cable to update at present.

    Check http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=119

One other added bonus is that it has a skip function which can be set from 30sec interfills to skip ads.

U need adobe acrobat to read these.

It is a fantastic box really it is. Humax are the dogs dangles of Freeview, okay I may now be biased, I have 3 boxes, Fox-T, 8000T and the 9200 and there great quality built with metal cases, not cheap plastic like most of them

There's also a FAQ on digispy may be interested tho this who may get one
