    Hi, i have tried, but even though the column is in yellow, it's protected by a password??
  • Sounds like you're using a version of Excel earlier than 2002 (Office XP).

    Excel 2004 for mac - maybe mac is the problem?

    I don't have any experience with Office on the Mac so couldnt say for certain, but if it treats all the cells as locked then it appears to be behaving the same as Excel 2000 (for Windows), so I'd say its quite likely MS haven't put all the new features into that Mac version.

    I been using 1.6 for a few weeks for some reason the excel spreadsheet is password protected which I have never protected it before

    Its only protected in the cells/columns you don't need to edit, i.e. the ones with equations etc in, you can still open the spreadsheet without a password and edit the bits required then save again etc. If you can open the spreadsheet but can't edit anything at all, then you need a newer version of Excel. If you can't even open it without needing to put in a password, then not sure what's happened, so I'd suggest downloading again.

    Edited to add - just noticed you said you'd been using it already, so not sure whats happened, must have been the way you saved it or something?

    Have you tried editing the cells and columns that should be editable, including those in the Monthly tab? I think you'll find you can't edit certain pages, if not all of them.

    Mixed payment is really just paying somewhere in between interest only and full repayemnt, so if the rate is the same for everything, just manually set your monthly payment at the total amount you pay and the figure it gives is your overall balance. If you want to see the two bits seperately just use the second mortgage spreadsheet, one doing the repayment part, one doing the interest only part (and obviously ignore the comparison page).

  • Thanks for a fantastic resource.

    This is almost certainly me being thick(!), but if I have an fixed rate interest only offset where my monthly payment is variable, how do I enter these figures correctly in the detailed tab?

    Should the basic monthly payment be the actual interest paid that month or should it be the amount pre-offset benefit?

    I've tried putting the offset benefit into "Monthly Offset Saving" with various combinations of "monthly payment" but the spreadsheet is adjusting the capital. In reality, my capital remains the same each month.
